The Club
Chippa United is a South African football club based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. Affectionately known as the ‘Chilli Boys’, the team is wholly-owned by Chippa Investment Holdings, which is a construction, security and cleaning company founded by Chairman Siviwe "Chippa" Mpengesi.
The club was founded in June 2010 by Chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi, who was born and raised in the Eastern Cape where he bought the Castle League franchise of Mbekweni Cosmos which later became Chippa United FC.
The Chilli Boys’ first season in the Vodacom League was very successful, they were crowned the Vodacom Promotional Champions, after a series of play-offs in June 2011. This accomplishment ensured their promotion, into the National First Division (NFD). The club finished their debut season in the National First Division in 2nd place behind University of Pretoria and won promotion to the Premier Soccer League via the play-offs in June 2012.
The Chilli Boys were relegated after their first season in the top flight. Lessons were learnt and they played in the NFD during the 2013/14 season. They won the NFD Championship and earned themselves a well-deserved direct promotion back into the Premier Soccer League (PSL). By so doing they made their mark amongst local football giants in the PSL.
Umbro is the team’s apparel partner for the 2019/20 season.
